Relay for Life
The American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
The Greater Gardner MA “Relay For Life” is a 24-hour event held at the Mt. Wachusett Community College (MWCC) track from 6 p.m. Friday night to 6 p.m. Saturday morning on the second weekend in June. Bethany Baptist’s team in the past was called “Heaven’s Hope.”
The event’s schedule is as follows:
Day 1:
6:00 p.m. – Opening ceremony, Survivors’ Lap
9:00 p.m. – Luminaria Ceremony
Day 2:
10:00 a.m. – Caregivers’ Lap
6:00 p.m. – Closing Ceremony.
Paula d’Entremont, a long-term survivor, is a founder of the Relay in Gardner and is also the parish nurse for Bethany. Church members who want to sponsor Paula and/or purchase a luminaria in honor or memory of someone can speak to her after church or contact her at pkdb19@gmail.com.
